Marketing Executive Troy Beetz’s Unconventional Career Path

For someone who once planned to become an attorney, Troy Beetz has built a decidedly nontraditional career path.

With nearly 23 years of experience in sales and marketing, Beetz has worked across the mobility, clean technology, sports, and media industries. Today, he serves as chief growth officer at BREATHE!, a Las Vegas–based media and technology company, where he helps startups and Fortune 500 companies develop go-to-market strategies.

Originally from Los Angeles, Beetz earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Arizona State University. He worked as a stockbroker to help pay for law school, but his plan to become an attorney was upended when his mother became ill and he moved home to care for her.

During that time, Beetz came across a unique opportunity. Toyota Motor Corp. was recruiting talent for sales and marketing roles in Japan. He seized the chance and spent three years overseas, working on global marketing strategies and helping oversee production and distribution. That experience launched what would become a nearly 20-year career with Toyota, including a role as senior product manager for Lexus.

“I was out in the field working with all the dealers, and I really started to understand the power of marketing — television, radio, sponsorships, and partnerships,” Beetz said.

Beetz later translated his experience at Toyota into global marketing and planning roles with other automotive companies. One of those opportunities brought him to San Antonio in 2020, when DeLorean Motor Company Inc. established its headquarters in the city to relaunch the iconic sports car as an electric vehicle. As chief marketing and product officer, Beetz helped lead the brand’s revival. The newly designed vehicle is expected to be released in the coming years.

Since arriving in San Antonio, Beetz has also worked with American Honda Motor Company, a renewable energy firm, and a brand management company. Since 2022, he has served as chief growth officer at BREATHE!

At BREATHE!, Beetz launched the company’s strategic growth division. In his role, he helps organizations prepare to go public, refine their go-to-market strategies, and modernize operations. He also provides AI training for industry leaders, helping them redesign workflows, build intelligent systems, and drive innovation.

In addition to his work at BREATHE!, Beetz recently took on the role of vice president and chief growth officer at Albany State University, where he applies private-sector strategy to higher education by focusing on enrollment growth and endowment development.

While juggling multiple professional responsibilities, Beetz said that joining AMA–San Antonio has helped him build meaningful connections in the Alamo City. He recently spoke at an AMA-SA luncheon about his career journey, including his experience with DeLorean.

“That kind introduction has helped me live and thrive in San Antonio,” he said. “I’ve been able to connect with a lot of great marketing agencies, and people are always so positive and supportive. It’s been a tremendous help in getting acclimated to the city and getting involved in all it has to offer.”
